Day Conference Tours

These tours have been designed by Tour Hosts Destination Management (license No. 2TA001144), for participating delegates and accompanying persons of the 25th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners. Only the best aspects of Sydney and its environs have been incorporated to provide value for money for persons whose time is at a premium. All sightseeing tours include the services of an English speaking guide, all entry fees and meals where specified. All tours are based on a minimum number of participants. If this number is not reached, alternative places will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of bookings. Where participants cancel their day tour bookings prior to Friday 25 July 2003 payment will be refunded in full. Thereafter, no refund will be made. It is recommended that comfortable shoes and informal dress be worn on all tours.

Explore the vibrancy and style of cosmopolitan Sydney, one of the world's most beautiful harbour cities. Discover colonial buildings and cobbled lanes in The Rocks - Australia's European birthplace. Visit the Botanic Gardens and enjoy views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House from Mrs Macquarie's Chair, a waterfront seat carved into the rock for the wife of visionary colonial governor, Lachlan Macquarie. Travel through Sydney's fashionable eastern suburbs, renowned for their elegant homes and harbour vistas, on the way to world-famous Bondi Beach - a haven for surfers and sun lovers alike.

Aboriginal Insight & Botanic Gardens

Experience the world's oldest living culture on a guided walking tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens, where the original inhabitants of Sydney gathered plants, seeds and roots for food and medicine. At the nearby Art Gallery of New South Wales, enjoy morning tea and an Aboriginal performance followed by a guided tour of the Yiribana Aboriginal Gallery. Learn about the Dreamtime in this excellent permanent collection celebrating the diversity of indigenous arts in Australia. After the tour, return transport is provided or spend time on your own exploring the Art Gallery.

Blue Mountains

Leave the city and travel west to the mountains. En route, visit the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum for morning tea. View the works of this famous and influential Australian artist, including children's books, novels, controversial paintings and drawings.
Lunch will be provided, following which you will view the spectacular sandstone cliffs and valleys for which the Blue Mountains are famous. Learn the legend of the Three Sisters - giant sandstone formations of Aboriginal significance before returning to Sydney.

Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge is an exhilarating experience. Rendezvous at the Bridgeclimb office for a safety briefing and prepare for your three-hour adventure! Accompanied by an experienced leader your small team will walk up to the summit of the Bridge's upper arch - 130 metres above sea level. Harnessed to a static line for the duration of the climb, be treated to spectacular 360-degree views across one of the greatest harbours in the world. Back on terra firma, explore the historic Rocks area or make your own way back to your hotel.

Set in colonial Ceylon, The Pearlfishers tells of the beautiful virgin priestess Leila and her tumultuous impact on the friendship of the French governor Zurga and the young Indian Nadir. Her forbidden love for Nadir is further complicated by a special, mystical bond between Zurga and herself, a bond which proves crucial to the opera’s exciting conclusion.
