Drs John J. Borking (58) (Dutch Nationality) is Director of Borking
Consultancy (Wassenaar) and Associate Board member of the Dutch
Data Protection Authority (CBP) in The Hague (The Netherlands).
He was till 1 January 2002 Vice- President of de Registratiekamer
and Commissioner of CBP.
He participates in several EU funded research projects. He is
also reviewer of EU research projects and member of the CEN -IPSE
steering committee. Furthermore he is board member of the Dutch
Association of Privacy Officers (NGFG) and is arbitrator / mediator
and board member of the Dutch Foundation for Alternative Dispute
Resolution for ICT (SGOA). He is also board member of the Netherlands
Gaming Control Board and advising on interactive gambling.

John Grimes is the co-founder of Argus Solutions Ltd, a Sydney
based company specialising in iris recognition technology. John
has been responsible for developing the change management and
privacy programs for over 85 clients introducing iris recognition
in Australia and the region. Argus Solutions was awarded the iPrivacy
award by the peak IT industry body AIIA in recognition of the
companies privacy sensitive approach. John is a graduate of Flinders
University (BA, Political Science) and Australian National University
(MA, Strategic Studies).

Daryl Williams AM QC MP was appointed Commonwealth Attorney-General
on 8 March 1996 and became a member of Cabinet on 5 October 1997.
He has been the Federal Member for Tangney since 1993.
As Attorney-General, Mr Williams has responsibility for a wide
range of matters, including federal courts and tribunals, national
security, human rights, international law, censorship, family
law, native title, bankruptcy, constitutional issues and privacy
law.
Mr Williams holds law degrees from the University of Western
Australia and Oxford University. He was selected as WA Rhodes
Scholar in 1965 and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1982.

Richard Thomas took up appointment as the Information Commissioner
on 30 November 2002. He has independent status, reporting directly
to Parliament, with responsibility for enforcing the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and Data Protection Act 1998.
His previous career has included: Director of Public Policy
at Clifford Chance (the international law firm); Director of
Consumer Affairs at the Office of Fair Trading; Head of Public
Affairs and Legal Officer at the National Consumer Council; and
Solicitor with the Citizens Advice Bureau Service.
He has also previously held various public appointments, including
membership of the Lord Chancellor’s Civil Justice Review
Advisory Committee and the Board of the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Closing Address
Mr Peter Hustinx
(President, Data Protection Authority, the Netherlands)
Mr. Peter J. Hustinx has been President of the Dutch Data Protection
Authority since 1991. In July 2003 he was appointed for a third
term of six years.
From 1996 until 2000 he was Chairman of the Article 29 Working
Party on Data Protection in the EU. In the Council of Europe,
he took part in the preparation of the 1981 Convention on Data
Protection.
He received law degrees in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and in
Ann Arbor, USA. Since 1986 he has been deputy judge in the Court
of Appeal in Amsterdam.
